When conventional drill pipe is replaced with Insulated Drill Pipe (IDP), heat flow through the pipe wall is dramatically reduced. Used independently, or in conjunction with the Geo-Cooler, IDP allows much cooler drilling fluid to reach the drill bit. This minimizes the damaging effect of high formation temperature on drilling tools, materials, and processes. IDP also enables drilling engineers to optimize the use of downhole motors, electronics, and steering tools.
